Our Journey: From Vision to Reality

The Beginning (2011)

SMK Gunung Rinjani Lombok was born from one man’s vision of bringing quality vocational education to rural East Lombok. Ali bin Dachlan, a respected education advocate in the region, recognized that young people in remote areas needed practical skills training to secure meaningful employment.

On July 14, 2011, the school officially opened its doors. In those early days, we operated from borrowed classrooms at the University of Gunung Rinjani – a partnership that reflected the community spirit that would define our growth. Our first principal, Mr. Muh. Saleh, S.IP., M.H., launched two programs that addressed local employment needs: Computer and Network Engineering (TKJ) and Motorcycle Engineering (TSM).

Building Our Foundation (2014-2018)

As student enrollment grew, so did our need for dedicated facilities. In 2014, construction began on our main building, built on land owned by the Gunung Rinjani Lombok Foundation. This development was made possible through contributions from multiple sources:

  • Support from the Gunung Rinjani Lombok Foundation
  • Donations from community leaders and alumni
  • Contributions from private sector partners
  • Local government educational funding

By 2014, we had established two computer laboratories to support our TKJ program. Under the leadership of our second principal, Mr. Karomi, S.Pd., M.Pd., we completed a practical workshop for motorcycle engineering in 2018, giving our TSM students hands-on training facilities.

Expanding Our Impact (2018-Present)

Our growth continued beyond classrooms and workshops. We added essential infrastructure including a volleyball court for student recreation and two business unit buildings that support our entrepreneurship programs. These facilities, located just north of the University of Gunung Rinjani campus, demonstrate our commitment to holistic student development.

We also developed comprehensive support programs:

  • Industrial internship placements aligned with student majors
  • Certified English and Korean language courses through official institutions
  • Computer training for enhanced digital literacy
  • Student participation in competitions and technical communities
  • Portfolio development documenting student achievements

Today and Tomorrow (2025)

Under Principal Syariyah’s leadership since early 2024, SMK Gunung Rinjani Lombok continues evolving to meet our students’ needs. We’re expanding our school-based enterprises as part of our entrepreneurship and self-reliance learning programs, preparing students not just for employment, but for creating their own opportunities.

Since 2011, we’ve graduated thousands of alumni who now work in their chosen fields, run their own businesses, or pursue higher education. We maintain connections with our graduates for three years post-graduation, providing ongoing training and career support.

Our Lasting Commitment

From borrowed classrooms to a full campus, from two programs to comprehensive career preparation, our journey reflects the power of community commitment to education. Every building, every program, and every graduate represents the collective effort of educators, families, and supporters who believe in the transformative power of practical education.

As we look toward the future, our mission remains unchanged: providing quality vocational education that creates real opportunities for students, regardless of their background or circumstances.
